We have developed a new technology, the Universal Powder Separator, that can analyze and separate powders on a particle-by-particle basis. The ability to manipulate individual grains of powder at scale will have far reaching implications. Our mission is to replace current mineral and metal processing technologies that use toxic chemicals and large amounts of water with a cleaner, cheaper, and easier to use technology. We are initially focusing on industries that work with high value mineral and metallic powders such as mining, additive manufacturing, and recycling. The Universal Powder Technology can be scaled from a laboratory model (shown in image below right) to a production model that can process multiple tons per hour. The technology uses small pneumatic tubes and advanced near infrared sensors to identify particles based on their spectroscopic signature. We use neural networks to perform the spectroscopic identification and the device can be taught to recognize all different types of chemical compounds. Ultimately, we will expand into other vertical markets (such as food) as the identification algorithms improve. Particle separation technologies are very old and include flotation, leaching, electrostatic and magnetic separation. Many of these technologies have been around over 100 years and are ripe for disruption. Our technology is fully automated and requires little skill to use. This will allow small operators to produce concentrates that currently require a high level of technical skills. It is not uncommon to find mineral and metallic powders with an intrinsic value of $1,000 to over $25,000 per ton. Allowing operators to unlock this value with limited capital investment will create jobs, reduce materials cost, and be better for the environment than current processing technologies.

Products & Services

Universal Powder Separator

Our Universal Powder Separator can analyze and separate powders on a particle-by-particle basis. Our technology allows operators to produce high value mineral concentrates and metallic powders with little training and lower capital costs. Our first product, the Portable Mineral Lab, is nearly finished with the development phase and scheduled for production in July 2017. This device will allow users to get the complete chemical composition of crushed rock samples in the field for pennies per sample. We expect to sell the Portable Mineral Lab for $9,795 with healthy 50%+ margins. Our second product, the Production Mineral Separator, will scale up the technology to one ton per hour. It will be capable of producing any mineral concentrate. It will sell for $350,000 and should be able to pay for itself within a few months at most mining and processing facilities. There is strong interest from the mining industry for our first product and we expect to sell 100 units in 2017.
