We are developing a new kind of toilet that features several improvements in ergonomics, hygiene and environmental sustainability compared to existing products available on the market. Available toilet options have several shortcomings. Consider the standard North American toilet design: hinged layers of seat and lid collect grime, are hard to clean, and must be raised and lowered by hand during every use. A wide open bowl emits a plume of particles during standing usage, and whenever it is flushed. A convenient but physiologically inappropriate seat height of 17” contributes to constipation, hemorrhoids and other GI complications, and the list goes on. If we consider toilet designs from other parts of the world, we find that they may address one or another of these issues, but they introduce other problems. From the flexibility and balance required to use the squatting toilets seen commonly throughout Asia, to the inefficiencies of a stand alone bidet one finds in Europe. Japanese or smart toilets likewise address one or two of these issues but they still start from the same flawed design described above. Moreover, they require an electrical hookup, which most North Americans do not have adjacent to their toilet, and smart toilets can be prohibitively expensive for many consumers. We think there is a great opportunity in the form of an underserved market. Unlike Toto, Kohler, Duravit and other key players who have focused on simply incorporating more technology into their designs (e.g. seat warmers, antibacterial UV lighting, bluetooth speakers etc), the OvO has been reinvented from the ground up, incorporating both ergonomic improvements such as a dedicated urinal entry point and squat-enabling heel supports, as well as significant design-based improvements in hygiene, such as the magnetic rotating shell design, proprietary water-freshening system, self-cleaning mode, integrated bidet, and hands free open/close and flush foot pedals. As noted above, one important differentiator between our product and existing Smart Toilets is that OvO does not require an electrical hook-up and will be fully compatible with North American plumbing specs.
